Replacing the clutch
Any thoughts/tips/suggestions?
Thanks!
1.) while a jack with a big foot will get the transmission in and out, a true transmission jack will save you at least one migrane, either on the pulling out or the putting in.
2.) get yourself some engine degreaser, and some brake cleaner. not exactly what you'd think of right off. it helps to clean up the tranny and around the bellhousing before you pull the transmission so you don't get a bunch of crap around the clutch when you go to put it in. Make sure to clean off the clutch really good before you bolt the tranny back on.
3.) the kits are pretty complete just about anywhere you get them. You should get the pressure plate, throwout bearing, and alignment tool along with the clutch. This makes the job a lot easier, as you don't have to run around finding all the parts seperate.
4.) Make sure to mark your shifter linkage locations B4 you remove the tranny. I messed this up and it took me quite a few hours to get the linkage back together.
5.) if you tip the tranny back too far it will leak fluid, so try not to as life can get a little messy.
other than that it makes for a pretty straightforward job, oh and a buddy goes a long way on this one. He can sight for you when you go to put the tranny back on. getting the tranmission to line up is probably the hardest part of the job.
