Stock you should be able fit 35s(if it's a highboy), with fender triming you could fit about 38s, then with a 6" lift I'm thinking 44s should fit.
I know a guy in the offroad forum who has a 6" lift with fender timming and 44s, so should be the same for you.
I can run 38' Hawgs on my truck with a 6" and still have plenty of room. My very first vehicle was a 72 F-250 Hi-Boy and I ran 35's stock for a year almost , no rubbing. Also its not so much how tall the tire is for the lift its the width that causes rubbing issues and fender clearance problems the most. Like a stock Hi-Boy can run a 35 inch tire thats 12.5" wide but not a 14.5" or 15.5" wide tire. Because of this you couldnt even turn without grabbing the fenders and tearing your body up.
what about for a 78 f-150 4x4 stock height whats the max tire size i can put on it without any body or suspension lifts. would 35's fit or would like 33's be the biggest i could put on.
like busted knuckle said, it can be done for cheap, blocks in the rear, and new front springs(about $130) with new c bushings(less than $20) and that could give you 4"s of lift all around, or if you want to do it cheaper, drop the spring perches.
i am going to have a 1977.5 f-250 4x4 crewcab with a 6 inch skyjacker lift syestm, what is the largest size tire befor or after i trim the fenders? how wide of a tire would fit?
Depends on how much trimming, but you could fit 44s with that 6" lift and fender trimming and a 18" tire shouldn't be to much of a problem with the right wheel backspacing and possibly some modification to the body mount behind the front tire.
38s and possibly 40s should easily fit without fender trimming. With trimming you can fit whatever you want, all depends on how much you like your fenders.
