Hello again my friends, New rims are on the way and I need some advise on what my new balancing system will be. Cost is important so I imagine golfballs would be my best bet. Lets hear what you guys have to say.
Also if anyone can help me locate some Chrome lugnuts ( them real long ones)
Im having a real hard time finding any lugs that are long enough to cap my lugbolts. Prior to this i was using my old stock rusty ones. That could be part of the reason my rims fell into pieces where the lugnuts boltdown.
Thanks - Tim
Somewhere on this site there is a thread all about balancing... I'm sure after one of the head honchos see this thread, they'll post a link.
All n' all... after I read all the way through it... it seemed for the money... 1500 copper bb's per tire were the most suggested. No personal experiance yet though... waiting to buy new tires to try it.
Ask Ivan... I believe he's the fella with the truck named Captn Crunch??? I remember he knew what he was talkin about.
You should beable to get Long Chrom lugnuts at your local tire store. I live on the West coast we have a tire store over here called Les Schwab and I know they have them cause I used to work there. Tire stores will usually have them they're like 5 bucks a piece.
I wouldnt use golf ***** or that powdered stuff either. Even if it clames to not clump up with moisture, it will. Also, BB's will rust eventually. then they do not seperate and they are ineffective, only making your balancing woes 10x greater.
Inj my opinion, after discussion with the Elite of this board, I personally came to the conclusion that the ceramic blasting medium was the best stuff. There is an official balancing bead that is ceramic coated, but its a lot more expensive than it needs to be. Here is the "professional" stuff (waste of money): http://www.innovativebalancing.com/index.html
In other words, just go find some medium that is used in blasting stuff thats ceramic.

that les schwab is hosing their customers hardcore!!! ain't no way i would pay 160 bucks for lugnuts!! i got mine for 1.25 at my local schwabbies.... the ceramic media like rawpower is talking about seems to be the best stuff that people like to use and have the best luck with..
Ok thank you - Im not to sure what size is medium - bb size ? - marble size ? - Dust size ? - Golfball size ?? - Do any of you guys have a link on where to get them and also how much goes in each 39" x 16.5 " x 15" tire ???
No clue what snake oil is but that stuff would work ok... Id really try to find something ceramic. if you did get that medium Id get the 5/32 size. So like a BBish size would be good. Use the chart on hte webpage that I posted earlier for the amounts to put for each tire. Id guess about 12 oz for a tire the size that you listed.
Okay, I'll admit, I'm confused. Why are you thinking about putting loose items in the tire for, instead of having the tires professionally balanced at a tire shop? And ditto to checking yer local tire shops for the chrome lug nuts. I got a nice set at my local Robertsons Tire supply. The guys were real friendly and let me come into the warehouse to pick through the different styles they had available in the shelves of open boxes of chrome lugnuts. Each one cost less than a buck a piece. So I got all four wheels dressed up for about $18.
id just run the BBs, i was worried about running them when i mounted my boggers so i used AirSoft bb's which have been working well so far. i do have some wobble problems here and there, but i doubt its the bbs fault! the back boggers are verry badly featherd so some times it feels like a vibrating chair but when it comes time to remove the bbs you can just run a magnet through the tire to catch them all. super easy, i have yet to hear about someone having issues with BBs though, id just run them.
as for lugnuts, get them on ebay. i was in the same boat awhile ago, and i got all the lug nuts i needed that where the extra long length, for a fraction of the price at a store.

The practice of using internal balancing medium instead of rim mounted lead weights stems from the larger bias tires which will not balance out with conventional lead weights. This is why many shops will just throw in a bag of equal instead of trying to balance it with lead. Equal works great at first, but performance degrades down the road, I wouldn't recomend it. The Centramatics are great, but the ones available for our rim sizes will only balance up to a 35" tire, and be ineffective with the larger sizes. The best internal balancing medium is in fact the dynabeads, or anything along those lines; such as the ceramic blasting medium already suggested. BB's work great, but as pointed out eventually they will rust and clump. I don't put huge road miles on either of my sets of Swampers, so I just use copper coated bb's. The copper will put off the rust for awhile. Golf ***** work too, but are not as effective as the bb's or dynabeads. Hope that answered all your questions.
