i have 3.73s in my 99 SD now i want to change to 4.56s for the bigger tires im putting on. my mechanic told me that i will have to change housings. i thought it was a straight swap. i already bought the gear sets no one said anything about changing housings. whats the scoop.
Thnx
why would you have to change anything i bought gears for thr rears that are on the truck shouldnt have to change anything. when i bought them they asked the rears in the truck and they sent the gears for it .
You do NOT need to change housings or carriers. The Dana 50 and the Sterling 10.5 you have do not use carrier breaks. Click HERE. You'll want to make sure your mechanic is competant at setting up gears before you commit to having him do it.
'They' do make 4.56 gear sets for the D50. Part number YG D50R-456R at Randy's. Make sure you tell who ever you get the gears from that the D50's are in the front - because you need reverse cut gears. The part number I supplied are for reverse cut gears.
n edit: Sorry, missed the fact you already have the two gear sets. Just double check the front for reverse cut.
