The old van finally died an ugly death last week. We got t-boned. We are fine , the van took it all.
We went truck shopping this past weekend. Looked at the fords , chevy's, dodge's, and even a nissan frontier. We were looking at 02-04 model years. Prices ranged from 22kto 12k. Most drove nicely, a few were crap. only two stood out for us. One was a ford , the other was the dodge. In the end it cane down to the dollars. both were 03 models with comparable miles (38-40k). The monthly payment for the ford was 450, the dodge was 345. We bought the dodge. 03 quad cab with the 4.7L.
You should look in my driveway:
2 88 Bronco's (EB & XLT)
1 93 Chrysler Concorde
1 01 Dodge Ram (Quad Cab, Diesel, Duelly)
1 99 Chevy Van
1 93 Chevy Van
You already bought it, so what is there to say, except do the search for "+dodge +transmission" and change the fluid frequently. The guy from AAMCO pretty much got it 100% right on the radiator and cooler problem, imo.
My buddy has a 95 Dodge diesel, and what he did was have a heavy duty torque converter put in his trans. He has had no problems with the trans. Truck has 165,000 miles on it with the original trans.

I am aware of the trans issues dodge has. Which is why I didn't buy the 4x4.
As for perfecting my skills by owning a Dodge as someone stated. I find this doubtfull. I work on very few Dodge trucks. To be mroe precise , only one in the past 3 months. That was this past friday. Was a wiring issue. All the external lights were out except the turn signals. The gang connector going through the firewall for the main eng harness was all corroded and wires were falling off of it.
From what I have found out it's not that uncommon on the dakota model.
And the woman drives the truck... I still drive the mongoose until I get my drivers liscence back. And it's a real purdy pink one.
