Hey,
I have a 79' Ford F-150 with a inline 6 4.9L. I have a rare chance to get a 78' 460 out of a Mercury Marquee for FREE. I have a few questions for yall to answer for me. Since my truck has a C6 tranny on it already, will the C6 on the 460 fit with the driveshaft? Will the driveshaft be too long/short? Will I need to replace the radiator? What about the rear end replacement, will I need it? Is there mounting brackets for the 460 since the 79' came with a 460 option? I am generally looking for anything I should find out before I attempt at installing the 460. Thanx and yall come back now...
I have some info that might help. I am taking a 460 out of my 1977 f150. I have almost everything you would need except for the exhaust. I am looking for some parts to put a 300ci straight six in my truck like the tower motor mounts, throttle cable, clutch/prake pedal with linkage and mounting bracket and the radiator? If you have these parts still I would be willing to do a trade if you are not too far away from Washington state. I would pay to ship the parts to you if you could ship the ones I need to me. Just let me know what you need.
Dont get rid of the striaght six. If it is runing well id keep it, repair it if u can. I have one in my f100 and its a great motor, if u try to go over to a 460 its gonna be a pain in the rear, and most likly not worth your trouble. Id get a hold of another truck to do this to. But if it were me id keep your current motor.
Could you give me the ~CORE~ measurements (not including the tank sizes) for your radiator? I'm going from a 300 to a 460 and www.radiator.com has sent me two radiators that are the wrong size. Is the opening for your 460 radiator in the mount that it locates onto 24" X 18 1/4"?
The core size of the radiator I have in the F100 now is 24" wide by 18 1/4" tall --- they keep sending me radiators that are 24" wide by 27" inches tall (core size!!).
