Besides, I like not having carpet in my cab, vinyl flooring is so much easier to clean and maintain. that, and I dont feel like a yuppie with vinyl flooring either.
Yeah, but the carpet makes great sound insulation. Just don't worry too much about keeping it clean. Anyway, vaccuuming isn't THAT hard. Plus, if I wear western boots while driving a rubber-floored Ranger, my right heel slides around and plays heck with my knee after more than a couple hours.
I agree that the Ranger is by far the nicest looking, most useful size small truck on the market. One thing I'm noticing, though, is that almost all of them seem to ride high like a 4x4 now. My '97 4x2 on 14" rims is nice and low, which makes it a lot easier to load heavy things into than the higher models. But it seems that most of the 4x2s now have 4x4 suspension, too. I don't get it. :
I have a 2001 4.0 4x4 reg.cab Ranger edge.I give that little truck alot of credit.I beat that thing in a way that really makes me believe that ford made a great small truck.I can almost guarantee if it was another brand truck,I would have replaced a number of things by now.130,500 miles, and so far just a battery. No need for me to knock on wood. : )
I have an 87 that is just sitting in storage a few states away. It has the 2.0 in it. IMHO that engine sucks. I want to get it out here because I have a 351W just waiting to be built and put in it. I loved that truck so much, I got an 04 when I was in the market to buy. I love the Rangers. But I heard a nasty roumor the other day. I heard ford was going to discontinue the ranger after 06. I am getting ready to research this to see if it is true. If it is, Ford must be smoking some crazy stuff. But yes I agree with all of you. The ranger is awsome!
With gas going up and never going down again I think the small truck will make a comeback. Maybe Ford will let it lay a couple of years and then bring back a smaller Ranger. Of course the bone heads will probably call it a Ranger II and make it out of plastic. My little 1990 Ranger is a true compact truck. Mine is a standard cab short bed with the 2.9 V6 and a 5 speed transimission. Plenty of power for this little ride and it is a true two seater....basically a Miata with a bed on back.
