Does anyone know how difficult it would be to swap mirrors from a 92-97 F series with my 90 f350. The first pic is of the mirrors I have on currently, the second/third being the ones I want to put on. http://www.missoulacarandtruck.com/T...AGES/5-153.jpg
First off you'll be sorry if you swap mirrors as the '92-'96 style are smaller and not really enough if you pull a trailer or carry loads in your truck that makes use of mirrors mandatory-I have a 1994 with the electric version and have stick on spot mirrors on them as I pull my 18' car trailer with my truck.
I am contemplating the reverse of your swap to get the larger mirrors.
I would just about swap with you but have no idea how you would install these electric mirrors. your best bet would be the manual ones.
Do your mirrors stay aligned? I've got some aftermarket ones that look like that your picture, but no matter how I tighten the pivot screws the mirrors slip out of alignment when I close the doors. I'm wondering if getting a pair of Ford mirrors in a junk yard would be better than what I've got.
I am not really worried about the mirrors being smaller since I don't tow much, it's just that I really like the look of those mirrors. Plus my drivers side mirror doesn't stay in place, kinda like your oldtruckguy, I figured out that it was the little ball that lets the mirror adjust is too loose, and I don't think there is a way to fix it.
i did the swap for my 88 ford and love it...way sharper than those old grandpa mirrors...sorry. to all those who like them....it wasn't too bad to install....i had to find out where to mount them...then i drilled out the spot welds so the bracket on top would come off. i the had to take my dremel and cut a large opening to accomodate for the part that connects to the inner door panel...once i got some screws in place i had to determine where the bracket met up to the inner door panel and drill a hole...install your screws and u are done...then u got to worry about the two massive holes in your door for the bottom screws
As far as the bottom holes use push in plastic grommets or rubber plugs. When Ford dealer installed the large trailer towing style mirrors on a vehicle that originally cae equipped with the swing auay mirrors or smaller sport mirrors 4 plugs were incled in the kit to plug the bottom holes in each door.
