I recently made a few purchases for my Ex and thought I would share my experience.
I bought an XM and was tired of the FM Modulation. I found the PIE X3-FRDW on the forum and purchased one from MyRadioStore.com for $80. It installed easily and works great. I also didn't like the cigarette lighter draped across the console so I installed an additional one inside my console and tied it in with the existing one. This way all the wires are hidden inside. Now I saw they have a hardwired cord on the website. Too late.
I also installed a DVD and two 7" screens in my headrests. I got them on EBAY for $250 sweet deal. I was able to connect them both to the PIE. This way the kids can listen to the DVD on headphones through the rear unit.
I also had to replace the passenger door lock actuator. Got the replacement off EBAY as well for $25 and was a direct fit.
Hope this helps someone. I will post some pics of the install in a few days if anyone is interested.
How did you install the screens in your headrests, got pics?
Yeah, I couldn't figure it out either, so I went with a 10" overhead which is ok, just forget about the rearview mirror. It's not like I will ever watch it.
I have a two screen dvd player in the back for the kids but they are velcro'd to the back of the seat. It can be seen in my gallery. Come to think about it, I never know how long I keep my company trucks so I don't want to do anything too permanent in there.
not to hard to do these came allready in the headrest so i have the original if i want to put it back to stock. you just have to cut the leather and install a bracket then they just pop in
You have to find the screens with the mounting brackets. The screens clip into these and not all screens come with them. Flip the bracket and mark the location on the seat. I put mine just above the seam. Mark diagonals on your outline and cut the pleather, err leather...along the diagonals; don't cut the material away just fold it inside. Once you are in there clean out the plastic wrap and foam in order to get down to the metal backing plate. Test fit the bracket in there to ensure it fits properly. The brackets have screw holes in them so using a drill bit drill the holes in the metal plate then put in your screw to secure the bracket. You may want to mark the location first then remove the bracket for drilling, that plate is thick. Using a coat hanger or fish if you have it, fish the wire inside the seat down to the lower inside corner of the seat. Connect your wire and pull it up to the bracket. connect to the screen and clip it in the bracket. Done. It was very easy to install and I had never done it before. The lower part of the material is pretty loose but it won't fall away.
I can post some pics of the screens and how and where I installed the DVD player.
