WEll, it's time to get the '250 new shoes, although i don't know what to get. I want one that is decently capable off-road but more i want a tire that handles snow decently. I NEED it to stay below $100 a tire, which realy limits me down. I have Hercules Terra Trac A/W's which seem decent i guess....any suggestions?
What size are we talking? $100/tire for a 250 can be cutting it VERY close, especially if you do any towing and need the weight rating.
I would make one recommendation before you begin your search of shoes. I don't know where you live, but pretty much anywhere there is this huge influx of new 250s and 350s on the road, with their big lift and shiny 20" rims and tires. Well, almost every single one of those guys has an almost BRAND NEW set of stock wheels and tires in their garage. I see them all of the time.
I am talking factory balanced wheels/tires with <500 miles and we are talking really good OEM tires- BFGoodrich, Michelin, Goodyear. You usually even get the option aluminum wheels/tires too! I see 5 sets a week for sale locally between the local nickel trader, in ebay, bargain trader and craigslist. I see these sets for $350-400 all of the time. That will get you a top of the line set for <$400!!!
Just make sure the wheels are the same, they went to a metric pattern sometime around 1999.
Take a look at Kumho tires, I don't know if they have what you want for under $100 but they are great for the money. I have been very happy with their Venture M/T tires on my half ton in the woods and in the snow, and they are load range C. They were $84 apiece. Not sure how much more they would be for your big horse or if they even make them but take a look at the tire rack...
Yeah, those Kumhos have pretty good reviews on tirerack if I am not mistaken.
Cooper makes a pretty darn good tire too at a decent price.
As far as the wheels, I forgot that Ford loves to change up bolt patterns with new models. Good advice to verify that. Good ole Chevy has had the same 8 bolt and 6 bolt patterns for like 30 years.
Yeah, I need I *think* load range E? I am pretty sure. Recaps seem to be 30 more than i am willing to spend, plus i'd be concerned about them truning to alligators. (not actual ones, but the tread seps with the carcas and makes a mess on teh road that looks like alligators....lol) I may try and find used tires...
