I am looking for some help as some ways to get more performance out of my truck which is a V10 but not hurting it in the long run. Some things I was wondering about was a new air intake system, and if any one has used any programmers. Thanks,
Does anyone pull a trailer with there X comparable to a 28' enclosed v-front snowmobile trailer. Just kind of curious how it pulled and if the rear end sags when hooked up to the trailer. I pulled a 4 place open trailer and the X handled it great.
I pull a 28ft. Haulmark 4 place with my X. It's the old heavy stile with a steel frame and rides above the tires. I have to pull the wieght distributing hitch up pretty tight, but it handles it fine... as far as sag goes. As you may see in other posts, I've got some handling issues. Your '05 will be better than mine because of the stock sway bar. But, you may want to take a short drive with that trailer before you actually head on a trip just to see how it does.
I think mine would sag really bad if I didn't use the WD hitch. The other problem I have is that I still have my WD shank from my Suburban that had a much higher hitch. I had to pull the head up quite a bit to level the trailer on the X, but now the shank sits way low and likes to drag. I'll have to go buy a shorter shank. Just food for thought.
I have a 30' bumper pull flat bed I carry a 79 F-250 on and 2K lbs of tractor weights, and a 4x4x8 foot shed built on the front to hold my tools, generator, compressor, floor jacks, spare tires, fuel, and more. It goes about 12.5k to 13.5K depending on how I am loading, and what I am deciding to take or leave home. The stock rear springs kind of sagged...alot. I ended up going to V-code springs all around and F-350 4" rear blocks and did an add a leaf. It works great like this. With stock rear springs it sagged and looked funny, but still towed ok....the headlights were pointing at the moon though. Mine is a 7.3. We also have a couple F-350's, they take the trailer with stock springs with no problems at all. My Excursion with the add-a-leaf and V codes take it with no problem....
Weight? - I think my trailer is just shy of 3000#. 4 sleds are another 2000#. So, depending on how long of a trip we are taking and how much gear is shoved in there with the sleds, I'd say I'm pulling 5-6000#. Seems kind of small compared to some of the numbers I see tossed around here. The wieght obviously isn't really my problem. It's the high, large wind areas.........

You may want to think about a friction sway control bar on your trailer if you don't have any sway control.
I tow a 27' travel trailer with a WD hitch. Rear of X doesn't sag much more than unhitched and my tongue weight is around 8-900 pounds. Trailer loaded is in the 7500# range. I am going to be updating my sway control to a dual cam type but the friction control seemed to do fine on my local length trips here in flat land indiana...will be heading out to Rockies on a 4K mile trek this summer and wanted to get a little insurance in the sway department...
BTW...a travel trailer is usually much taller and broader and usually presents a larger "sail" for the wind and passing semi's to "catch". But i've seen some large enclosed sled haulers too!
X-Hemi-Guy - Thanks for the tip on the sway control, but I just happen to be ahead of you. I've already got one and will be using it on my next trip. I used to have one with another trailer I had and it seemed to work ok. But, that was behind my Suburban which could really handle the trailer all by it's self in stock form. I'm curious to see how much it helps the X. I'll probably have my hellwig on by then too though so I may never really know the "stock" comparison.
The trailers that "Going 2 the mtns" and I are pulling are pretty much equivelant in size to a travel trailer. Just a great big square box and the semi's love to push you around as you pass each other.
Thanks for all the imput this a great place to learn what works. I am still in the process in looking at an enclosed trailer what is everyones opinion on a 7'wide to a full 8' wide trailer. I have heard that a 7' is easier to pull but can be a pain for loading and unloading. If I did go with a narrower trailer it would have to be a tripple axle 30' trailer and that would be a long set up being pulled by an X.
Going 2 the mtns - I didn't know if these guys wanted to hear us chat about trailers rather than X's so I sent you a private message about the 7' vs 8'.
If anyone else really wants my 2 cents on it, let me know......
