Hi there- I'm new here and looking for a bit of help or ideas as to what can be wrong. I have a 93 F150, went to warm her up this morning, put the key in, I couldn't even turn the key over. It's like I have the wrong key in the ignition. Checked to be sure she was fully in park and she was, tried my spare key, nothing. The chimer that tells me my key is in the ignition goes off but it just won't let me turn the key over. I have no idea what is going on. Any ideas??
If it is the correct key (Hey, we've all had mornings like that) more than likely the steering wheel is pushing hard against the locks and therefore the ignition lock is being "bound".
Put key in, turn wheel side to side a little bit, then turn ignition key while wiggling the wheel.
I don't know what it's called but mine is bad for the "chrome ring" around where you put the key in it will get turned and the key won't go in properly and you have to align it up. I'm sure thats the same problem that mine does occasionally. Try pushing in the key while twisting the ring back and forth with your left hand to line it back up.
you probably need a new tumbler, which is what the chrome thing is called, and they seem to be a problem on that generation, ive replaced them on my 93 f150 my brothers 95 f150 and my 89 f350... its really easy to do and costs about 30 bucks from your local ford dealer.
