Dana 44 help needed!!
I am in need of some help. I have a 62 F100 2WD with a DANA 44 3.73 posi. It also has 19 spline axles. I can not seam to find any rebuild info!! The ring & pinion look good but I need to replace all the bearings. I can only find parts for later model 30 spline units. Even Richmond Gear doesn't show my unit. What I did find funny is it didn't have any shims in it when I tore into it!! It didn't make noise, it just leaked real bad. Also, there was no "crush sleeve"! I thought all dana's used them!?!? I was able to find all the bearings and seals for my '66 Dana 44 3.73 limited slip at the local Carquest store. I would have saved some money buying a kit rather than the seperate parts, I think. Looks like I'm going to have to make my own axle tube gaskets or use gasket maker in the tube. I haven't taken it apart so I'm not shopping for gears at the present.
If I do require replacement gears, I wanted go with 4.09, 4.10, 4.11 but it seems I would require a different carrier (3.92 up). Is anyone familiar with this situation? If it's a major operation I'll stick with the 3.73.

thanks guys! I was able to find someone locally (N.E. Ohio) that for little $$ (labor only) was able to rebuild mine. If anyone is interested (or if I am allowed here) I can provide the name & #. My F100 is back on the ground & at least, rolling again. Now I just need a tranny yoke for a 70 C4 (case fill). Anybody????
