I have a AC compressor on my 78 that is not being used and a buddy told me that I could make a toggle switch for power to the compressor, and get a air hose and a chuck. Will I have onbord air? How many SI? He said I would be able to air tires , but not run an impact..... So i'll asume 100psi.
Dustin
Oil issues???? It was an dealer AC so would it have the compressor you mention. What about just squirting compressor oil for my air compressor ever 20 hours or so?
It should be a York compressor. It will have an oil fill plug on it so you just need to make sure the oil is topped off. The other style that cutts mentioned is lubed by the freon I believe, and they'll seize up if you're using them as an air compressor. The York compressor can charge 150 psi pretty easy if you want. To run an impact you just need an air tank. It's not the pressure so much that's the issue as the volume so if you have 5 or 10 gallons storage you're set. You'll also want a pressure switch on your tank to turn off the compressor when it reaches your desired pressure, otherwise it would just keep filling until something blows up. You can buy the pressure switches at any air/pnuematic shop for cheap. It's also a good idea to run an oil trap on the pressure line to the tank, York compressors seem to leak a fair amount of oil past the seals and you don't want that crap building up in your tank.
Nope. I decided to ditch that whole plan because I really don't need the OBA that bad. I have an electric compressor for my ARB's and that's it. I'll do a York compressor when I get around to the trail rig.
I used the AC compressor out of my '85 F150 after I rolled it in my shop for 5 years before retiring it a few months ago when I bought a new Craftsman air compressor. All I did was squirt some oil in it when I felt like I should treat it right. It worked good and never had a problem with it. I will probably use it on my truck someday for an air compressor, and use my bumpers as tanks
Mine has no tag, but had the ID numbers for the 10 CI York. it was on the top next to the hose C 10, then a serial number. C-10 is the bad boy I think! What would I use to connect the Discharge side to an air line it, will not fit a quick disconnect, Do I need to change the compressor oil?
I saw the two oil plugs
