Trailer brake under dash plug

2000 F250 diesel - can anyone tell me how to identify the plug/s under the dash that the brake controller plugs into? I haven't got the controller yet and want to make sure I know where to plug it in when I get one.

If it has the plug, it SHOULD be white or gray, 6-pin (3 over 3), with wires to only 5 pins. Ford likes to tape these plugs high up under the dash.

On my 94 F250 it was up over the tranny hump near the fire wall. It was the only plug sitting out in the open and not connected to anything near by. It is fairly easy to spot on my truck. It looks as the other guy described it.

Wild guess is that if you have the 7 pin trailer connector under the bumper, you should have this plug under the dash.

Good Luck,

Yes, I think I have the tow package (just bought the truck and have no history on it) as I do have a receiver hitch and a 7 pin and 4 pin plugs.

My 04 has a light grey plug located near the steering column near the firewall.

Drop the cover under the steering column. The plug should be to the right of
the cover, most likely on the other side of a metal bracket and almost directly below the center
of the cubby hole. They can be a PITA to get to at first if you don't know where they are hiding.

Think I found it where tfalk described. will have to remove trim piece where cup holder is to get access. Seems to be fixed to the inside of the metal bracket.

You shouldn't need to remove anything to get to it. It is just a little awkward to get to, it can be done with one hand.

Unless your truck came with it ,you'll have to go to the dealer and get the part to hook from wiring in truck to the controller. They're not too much 10-15 bucks I think.

What I ended up trying the last time was bending the wiring, pushing the plug up from
the bottom, then reaching in and pushing the wiring connector into the socket. They
sure don't make it convenient, but it's not bad enough that you need to remove any
of the trim to get to the connector. Your truck should have come with a wiring connector to
connect to the brake controller. If not, you can get one from Ford for a couple of bucks or
pretty much any decent parts store would have them. I got one in Pep Boys in a pinch.
I ordered one with the Prodigy the last time as well, now it's just a spare since my 06
came with the Tow Command.

Mine was located to the side of the tray that is to the left of the ash tray and below the 4x4 selector. I removed the panel below the steering wheel and then I used a screw driver to pry up the bottom of the connector until the white screw like plastic came out of the hole. I then pulled the connector down and plugged in my brake controller. After it was plugged in I used one hand to push the white screw like plastic piece back down into the metal into the orginal position.

If any of the above makes sense.
