The K&N Fuel Injection Performance Kits are made for engines with and without a "mass air sensor". How do I know if my '95 5.8L has this or not?
I'm 99% sure of the answer, but just for that extra 1%, does this kit replace the factor airbox (and air filter)?
Another question: how come people report MPG gains with these kits? If you're increasing the air flow to the engine aren't you consuming more fuel as well? Or is something else at work?
I've got the k&n filter charger on my 5.8L non-MAF. It replaces the filter box. You can also buy the filter that goes in the filter box.
If the engine can breath easier, it will run more effecient. Hence the mpg gain. Most guys use the extra hp to drive faster and therefore don't see mpg gains.
if your air intake is a single tube near the filterbox, it's MAF. if it's 2 tubes from the box to the TB, it's speed density. of course, having a MAF sensor inline is also a dead giveaway.
