I have a 98' Explorer 4WD SOHC. I don't want the replacement OEM drop in filter from K&N but instead want the K&N Fuel Injection Performance kit which replaces the entire cleaner assembly. I called K&N and a woman there told me that they had only approved the use of the kit up to the 97'Year Explorer 4WD SOHC. Can anyone tell me if I get the one listed for the 95-97 model and use it in my 98'? Any other makes that will work?

This was discussed on Rick Horwitz's Explorer Web site a few months ago. The consesus was that the '98s were the same as my '97. K&N certified the FIPK for the '97 but hasn't spent the time and money to re-certify it.

Hope they have one for you. I noticed a pretty good difference in it. But I also changed over to a 70mm Mass Air sensor also...
