Camper Shells Plugs

OK, one more question for the night.
I have an ARE metal(or aluminum) camper shell on my truck,
previous owner learned about height restrictions the hard way.
So the ladder rack is beat up pretty badly. I would like to take
off the rack, but what can I use to plug the holes.
I talked to ARE and they didnt know anything to use.
Im sure duct tape would work for a while, but what about something a
bit more aesthetic and long term?

I know they make silicone that bonds to metal. A nice dab of that should do the trick. I don't think that would be too pretty, though.

I don't know where the holes are, obviously. If they're on the roof and you can't see it, I would say to get some relatively thin aluminum sheet metal and cut out some small plates. Then, you could put some silicone on the bottom side of that plate, set it up on there, and pop-rivet it down. It wouldn't be pretty, but it would be permanent and water-tight.

How about replacing the bolt holes with plain old bolts? You could put a small dab of silicone on the bottom side of a flat washer, and then put your bolt on over top of that. That should get you a decent seal.

Hey, if you do use any of those solicone ideas, make sure the surface is as clean as you can get it. The seal will be better.

There's a few ideas for you, anyway.

You might try some hole plugs that you can often find at electronic supply warehouses. I would glue these in place with some RTV after thoroughly cleaning the holes and plugs with something like alcohol.

These plugs are usually chormed steel and can rust or plastic or rubber.

Good Luck,

I like the bolts and silicone idea, cheap and easy (like me!).
Ill check out the plugs first though.
And a good cleaning is a great idea, glad you reminded me.
