Auto hub problem
I have an 02 F250. I had the hubs replaced last year at the dealer because they wouldn't engage in the auto position. They worked fine till this year. The transfer case engages but not the hubs. They work in manual. Any ideas?

check the vacuum line that runs down to the hubs with the front brake lines, they sometimes come unplugged. if they are connected, it is an electronic problem or a bad vacuum pump. my brother had that problem and it was the vacuum pump.

If the vacuum lines are intact, you can verify they function with someone listening beside the hubs. Also, you need to check for other vacuum leak, then the next step is to pull the hubs apart and replace the inner and outer vacuum seals. While you are there, might as well service the hubs, lube axle bearings, grease ball joints if they have removable plugs. The seals get dirt in em and once they are dirty a small leak results in them not working..... When I bought seals for mine, was about 25 bucks a side. Its the time and labour....

Sounds like they need to be greased up. I use penetrating oil to get them moving more easily and then add some grease and close them back up. It may not help your current problem, but I find they last pretty well if they are well mantained.
