My Excursion is a 6.0 diesel that has 44k miles.
It just started making this funny air blower or sucking sound on an 8 hour trip to Tahoe.
It seems to be coming from the dash directly under the windshield.
The sound mimicks the engine tachometer, if you floor the accelerator the funny sound spools up to match the acceleration. When you take you foot off the gas the sound stops. Like I said, the sound sounds like a fan blower on high or maybe a serious vacume sucking sound (but I do not feel any air moving above or below the dash) The sound sounds like the windshield blower, however it is not the windshield blower. There are no performance issues and I have no other issues with this truck except the steering has always oversteered?
Maybe some sound proofing came un-done or something? If the turbo is mounted in the same place on the 6.0s as the 7.3s then the turbo is RIGHT there...
anybody have a trans temp gauge? Seeing as these trans are not known for their ROCK SOLID-ness I would have promptly gone out and gotten one if I thought I was ruining my $2k tranny.
Hmm...really going on a limb here. There was an issue a while back on the Vipers, where an HVAC control would either have a hose come loose (they work on vacuum to control the doors, etc) or the controls go bad. It was making a hissing sound that wouldvary with RPM as vacuum would rise and fall. Just a thought.
