I worked under the dasy yesterday and now I have more questions than I answered. I replaced the headlight switch and put in an intermit wiper switch . The dash lights didn't work before and neither did the dome light when you turned it on with the head light switch. That is why I replaced the switch. Now the dome light works and I still have no dash lights. The turn signal lights, alt light and break light works just fine. Didn't try the high beam as it just occured to me. The little light that is tor the lights/wiper works fine. I replaced the bulbe in the cluster so that is not it.
don't overlook ALL the bulbs being bad, I've seen that more than once. did you check to see if they are getting power? I think they are blue with a yellow tracer,(somebody correct me if I'm wrong).
ps, that might be blue with a red tracer?????

Yeah, I replaced the bulbs while it was all apart. Everthing on the cluster seems to work fine just no dash lights. The temp gauge works now too since I replaced the sender yesterday. I wonder if I still have a bad headlight switch. The replacement was a used one.
you may just have a wire unplugged, if your wiper control light is working, that is the same power sorce as the dash lights, so I'm guessing the switch is OK. If you don't have a test light, get one and check to see where your losing the power.
You did turn the switch **** so the dash lights will glow brighter ...correct ?
The TS flasher mounts on the body just above the side vent.
The flasher should have a nub on the end of it for this work.
The governor for the WW mounts by 2 screws under the dash directly under the wiper switch. The bracket for it should have 2 holes for sheet metal screws.
Nice picture *GRIN*
The female bullet tri-connector is for Un-switched power for the underdash courtesy lights.
Yeah, I turned the switch and I can see the little bulb by the wiper switch light up so I know that that is at least working. Is that the exact same circuit? That would eliminate the fuse? Like I said I replaced the bulbs and the turn and oil and brake lights work fine, just not the lights that should light the panel.
I guess now I need to hunt down some real Ford flashers so I have the little square plugs on the back to install them.
The WW governot has a plate that looks like it has threaded holes in it. I suppose that the screw sticks through the dash and into that plate.
Yeah, that was a nice picture. Not sure where I got it . Now if I could just get the person that keeps buying the complete set of XL courtesy lights out from under me on eb to stop I know where to plug them.
I'm not expert, but I do know that when I had bulbs not working on my old cluster I found that some of the printed circuit board was "cut".. At least it looked that way. I replaced the cluster and all problems were solved. The others on this board are better at diagnosing these electrical problems though. I just pull my hair out!!!
Good luck!
Dak
I had the same problem the dash light wouldnt work for nothing even put in all new bulbs finally I tore the the cluster out of my doner truck and everything works
As stated, check that printed circuit board. It's on flimsy plastic and very often comes apart in some places. Plastic and metal technologies are much better now than they were in the 70s. Also clean the contacts on the bulb holders and PCB where they plug in.
