1971 429 Engine Troubleshooting Help!

Hello - I am having an issues with a 71 429 CJ. The engine is stock and seems to run good but wants to expel about a gallon of antifreeze as it warms up to normal temp. The antifreeze is pumping out the overflow tube and seems to taper off when it reaches a certain point - seems to expel 1/2 to 1 gallon from the point the radiator is full.I haven’t played with it enough to know if it overheats in this condition but I am trying to identify the issue before I drive it and cause any additional problems – it does not seem to over heat the little bit I have let it run. Also seems to have a little blue smoke from exhaust.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

Thanks in advance for any help. (jeffs@buckeyeinternet.com)<o></o>

Maybe some guys here know better, but I think if it's a 71 the radiator should only be filled to 3 inches from the top. The other thing you could do is purchase an aftermarket coolant recovery kit with the correct cap(pressure wise) which would enable you to fill it to the top. I have a recovery kit on mine-real simple to install. Get it at any auto parts place.

T18 has it right, The upper tank is the expanshion tank on these old systems and if you fill it up it will puke out the extra. You do not have a problem.
