1979 F-150 351M. I always thought it took 6 quarts with the filter, but changed the oil today and it took 7. What is the standard amount for this engine?
My original engine always took 7 quarts to fill with filter. my new engine takes 5.5. I have been told they all should take 5 with filter. It may just be different dip sticks. I wish I knew for sure myself.

Everyone with a 400/351M I've ever seen/worked on has always taken 7 with filter. My parents 79, my 78 F150 and Bronco, the few I've done during my oil changing times, however they've always been 4x4's.
Somewhere there must be some official (FORD) literature on this but I haven't ever been able to find it. The Chiltons book I have says 5 quarts for everyone! Anyone know a source for "capacities"? Maybe in the CD rom manual offered here?

Believe it or not, I have the original owner's manual for my 77 F-250 w/351M. I will try to look at it tonight and see if it gives the capacity. If I can find it I will post later.
