I have an opportunity to purchase a 53 F-250 with the factory flatbed still intact. I am trying to figger out what this truck is worth. It has pretty extensive rust, (front of hood, doors, and fenders, cab corners etc)but supposedly ran not too long ago. 239 ohv v-8. Any ideas on the value of this truck?
Can it be driven if you get the engine to run or does it require extensive rehab?
Take a look in my gallery. The 50 F1 that lived in the woods for 36 years I paid $175.00. The 1949 F2 I paid $1,000.00 + an additioanal $450.00 or so to get it from Oregon to Dallas where I picked it up after driving 4 hours one way. I think that both were "fair" deals though most folks would say that I grossly overpaid for the 50 F1. These are a couple of data points.
There was a decent running 51 or 52 F-2 in the Spokane, WA area right before Christmas that could have been had for $1500.00 and there was a parts truck to go with it for an additional $250.00.
I'm not sure of what 250's go for either, but I just bought a 54 f250 for $600. It has a 223 I6 with a T98 4spd on the floor and a Timken 4.86 rear. It hasn't run in 2 years but the engine turns over, all of the fluids are clean and there are no leaks. Rust wasn't too bad on it: front lip of the hood, bottom of doors, cab corners, a very little bit of rust under the pedals. There is surface rust on some spots. The front fenders had been banged up a little but filled with bondo (more bondo than I ever thought possible). Frame is straight. All the glass is present and accounted for, however, there is a small crack in the windshield. The interior lacked door panels and headliner, and the seat was in pretty bad shape. The gauge cluster is there and the original radio and heater are there. It has a regular pickup bed, wood was completely rotted. All the lights and emblems are there too.
Here are the pics. Thanks for all the input. As far as I've been told, the engine problem is a mice eaten wiring problem. Other than that, the truck should be driveable.
I can get it for $500. It belongs to family, but it will take trailering it 700 miles. That's not really an issue though. I thought it might be good as is for a field truck on the farm we're in negotiations for, OR, possibly 460 and C-6 it, do some modifications and fixing up, and pull my fifth wheel camper on the short runs with it.
