Is it efi or carb. If it is an efi the comp is located on the drivers side kick panel beside the ebrake. If no efi than the brain box is on the drivers plasitic inner wheel well. 4x4 aluminum box.
He said it has a carb. So NC150, you're looking for a box on the driver side inner fender. Tsheriff, do you know how much that box controls? I'm thinking that it's just the ignition control module, is that right? Thanks.
Your truck should have the TFI-IV ignition, or electronic feedback system. Does your distributor have a vacuum advance on it, or just a cluster of wires(sprout connector)? What I am getting at is that if you do not have the vacuum advance, you more than likely have the TFI system, which means that the computer is mounted under the dash by where the ash tray is. It controls your carburetor's air fuel mixture as well as the various sensors for emissions. Look at the sticker under the hood, it will specify the type of system you have. If you are having trouble with the computer, convert to Duraspark 2. There is a lot of information on this site for such a conversion. Good luck.

We have pretty strict emissions requirements here in Arizona, and my truck passed with no problems after the Duraspark conversion. I did have to convert the Ported Vacuum Switch on the water pump from an electronic unit to a vacuum controlled unit. I used a vacuum diagram for a 1983 truck. Looking at your profile, it appears that you are from North Carolina. I don't think you'll run into any problems getting your truck through emissions with the older DS-2 setup. I don't think N.C. is as strict as AZ! We are probably second to Cali when it comes to strict emission control requirements. Have a good one!
Thanks for all the responses...Yes...No problem getting thru North Carolina emissions...In fact they only test the OBD II systems and just do a safety on the older ones....I could pull off all the emissions stuff and I would pass...As a matter of fact I have a 1980 MGB which has been desmogged and I have no trouble with inspections....
You're lucky! There are some nice mods you can do to the 300. Check out the inline six forum. There is a section call tips and tricks. Hmmmm, I think I see an Offy intake and a Holley 4 barrel in the future for you LOL! Have fun and happy Fording!
