I am just curious. I have a 9 inch in my 78, and I am looking at getting a set of 35 spline axles for it instead of replacing it with a D60. I would just like to get some opinions from people that have done it, or have gone with the bigger axles in the 9".
Also, If I stick with the 9", I will obviously still have 5 lugs, is there anyway to beef up the D44 up front? Like how much stronger are chrome moly shafts as opposed to stock, or is there a way to get thicker axles up there instead?
I've never really heard much about the front.
Thanks!
The only thing you can really do to the front is get better axle shafts and u-joints. The next improvement would be to get the HD D44 housing which has thicker axle tubes than the regular D44 housing. The HD housing is set up for leafs and not coils.
