Just bought a 1990 F150 with bench seat. How easy is it to change to bucket seats (or captain chairs whatever you call them).?
Can I make them fully adjustable? Any idea where do I get those seats?
I've got the same issue with my '87. I have heard that the seats from the Broncos will be an easy swap. I have been looking in salvage yards, but haven't found any yet. If those seats don't directly swap, it wouldn't be too much to make the new ones fit. Just a little drilling and welding, I would suspect.
Bench seats are fastened down by 4 bolts
I put a Lariet seat in my 94 F150 Custom, direct bolt in
just had to wire up the lumbar airbags, VAST improvement.
Looked at bucket seats, same frame on the outside, but 4 more bolts on the inside
a little drilling required.

If you're into drilling and welding... put it nicer seats!
If you use the Bronco seats you will have to drill 3 holes per side. For some reason the back bolt hole is ferther back than the ones in my F150. I used grade 8 bolts and washers.
I just changed the seats in my 1990 F150 4X4 regular cab.
Got 2 seats off EBay. They had been recovered, but never installed. Local shops wanted $350 to recover and respring my stock bench. Got these for $220 with shipping. I think they are from a 1992 F150 extended cab. Bolt holes did not line up, so drilled new ones. Used grade 8 bolts and large thick washers to secure them to the floor. The new holes are not in the reinforcing seam like the old bench, and the floor is very thin. Center punching thru the carpet easily punched thru the floor also. No rust, just thin metal.
The drivers side was very easy. Had to keep same distance from firewall because of shape of floor and mounting bracket. Had to move new hole 2 inches towards outside of truck to center on the wheel. On the passenger side, moved 2 inches also, and the inboard two holes are above the heat shield pop riveted onto the floor above the Cat. I cut slits in the shield and peeled it open enough to get washers and nuts in. After tightening, bent slits mostly closed. I put an EBay console from a Bronco, $30, in at same time.
My seats have a double track between floor and the seat. One track allows normal fore and aft adjustment. Other track lets entire seat slide way forward for access to rear section of the extended cab. The end result is I sit higher by a little over 2 inches. I'm 6' 1", and still have plenty of head room. Also sit little closer to wheel now just because it is more comfortable. If I run the seat all the way back, the top of seat back rubs on the rear window, so I pulled it forward 2 clicks and am still getting used to it. Like it a lot. Much more comfortable that the saggy bench seat. Entire project took a leisurely Saturday morning with a buddy helping.

Hey I was thinking about the same thing in my single cab too. Any saftey concerns on mounting on the thin metal? I need the buckets to put in my custom stereo console.

I am trying to find a 94-96 40/20/40 bench seat system, but I can't find any =( but I was wondering if that would bolt up to a 93 bench? I have purchased some capts. seats w/ counsel of ebay but i don't really care for them that much, I'd rather have the extra seat. If you know of anyone or anywhere let me know! =D
Wow, I really like that idea!! Now I've got to scour the junkyards again.
Glad you liked it. I spent a year on and off trying to find a clean set of bronco seats, and at least here in NJ, I saw nothing that appealed to me. Broken, torn, shredded, nothing useful. I could have spent a day restuffing and recovering junkyard seats but when I was attending an annual "dollar day" junkyard sale I spied the two minivan seats and couldn't resist. Out of an immaculately clean 40-50k mileage rear-hit minivan. Since I had steel lying around... I hacked it up, welded it, drilled some holes, had the seats in lickity split.
I was actually looking for red/maroon leather town car seats (full power) but didn't find anything even remotly useful. I can always upgrade later if I ever find pristine town car seats. These are comfortable enough for now and color match well enough I'm pleased.
I put a couple of pictures in my galery of the interior.
If you are really worried about safety, you could spot weld a small piece of channel under the floor and bolt thru that for extra strength. I just used large diameter, thick washers
really great stuff and pictures. I'm dreaming of having only the place where I could do things like you do (not mention the skills).
The dash in your 350 is really nice!
