Now that I have my F250 SD, I want to add keyless entry to it. It has power door locks already. Is there a kit, factory, or otherwise I can get? My wife's car has me spoiled.
Would I be better off just getting an alarm system, as keyless entry would probably be included?
Thanks
Your better off getting the mid grade remote start. Starts vehicle and unlocks doors for not much more than a alarm system. Mine goes back to the dealer on Friday to have it installed. All in all its the same price I would have paid for the Keyless entry when I ordered it.
The "truck part" of the keyless entry system is already there if you've got electric locks. If you go to your stealer/dealer and buy the little remote they can program it to work for you (you MAY be able to do it yourself if you have a way to enable that feature in the trucks computer). I did this with a 2002 Dodge, cost me $99 bucks for the key fob thing and the dealer programmed it for free. EBay sells the key fob part, but then you may have to pay the dealer to get it to work. For under $300 you can get factory keyless entry, alarm, remote start at some web site I saw called cheapfordparts.com or something like that. I'm thinking I may go this route to get remote start and have the trucks factory wiring intact... It's just a plug in application! Doesnt even require a trip to the stealer.
I just bought the Ford OEM Gold (top of the line) Keyless entry and remote start on eBay for about 89 bucks. The seller I bought from had about 5 for sale at the time, and I just checked and he still has them for sale. Price is from80-100 bucks for the same thing I got... Stealership charges about 350 for it i think.
On that ford gold kit, do you have to splice wires or does it all just plug in? I might hav eto bid on one if its plug and play... also what yeasrs does this work on?
I LIKE IT! Dont mind doing a little wiring work at all when its a Ford brand part, at least it SHOULD work perfectly once installed. Comes with an instruction manual, and for the price... I just won an auction on one of them. THANKS for the lead stebab!!!
I discovered today, while at the dealer, that I actually have the keyless entry setup installed. I was told to cycle the ignition key on & off 8 times. If the locks cycle, at #8 key on, that says you have keyless entry, and have entered "programming mode". I did this, but mine cycled at 5 times. This is valid, according to the dealer, as the truck is a different model than the first one I did. (2002) Service dept. has also verified this is the indication of keyless entry "programming mode". I ordered 2 new fobs. One for me, and one for the wifes key chain.
When I bought my truck, I had them install Ford keyless. I don't like alarms because they false often and no one listens to them anyway. The Ford keyless has a starter interrupt, and a flashing LED, so it looks like it has an alarm and that’s good enough for me.
It has to be wired to the system, so it's not an easy install if you don't already know what to do. I am a pretty good mechnic and can read, but the instruction manual was over 300 pages and included all instructions for the various alarms and remote starts. It was $50 to have someone do it for me. I elected for that option.
