Best muffler ???

My muffler is getting a little louder and has a rattle on my V10. Whats the best muffler. Any performance advantages. I like to be able to listen to the radio but don't mind a little rumble as long as its outside the cabin. I think I still would perfer the most quiet since its the family hauler. Thanks JOHN

I heard about the VForce mufflers...I am looking into those this week. $189 installed. Low cabin noise but a real nice rumble...

I have a V-Force muffler on my 98 suburban with a diesel. Almost no interior noise, but very nice rumble outside without being abnoxious.

Where are you getting the V-force installed? I have been looking at a Gibson exhaust. Any one have one? Any comments? Thanks JOHN

I have a walker BTM (big truck muffler) on my diesel X, like it a lot. They can be had for $54 shipped http://www.blackclouddiesel.com/Ford/walkermuffler.htm . I am replacing it with a 4" exhaust this week though.

I have the Gibson cat-back set-up on our X. Not much louder than stock but it has a good amount of interior resonance or "drone" at 50 to 55mph with a light load. It is a flow through design ,whereas Flowmaster and others use baffles to quiet things down.

Skip it and keep the stock exhaust. I am on my second Gibson at 70K and regret the day I cut the stock exhaust off the truck. Minimal performance gains and a system that needs replacing every three years. Don't do it!!!!! V10 FYI.

I have a Gibson Swept Side cat back on my 04Ex v10 (along with Gibson headers) and have absolutely no noticeable resonance at all, in fact you can hardly hear the exhaust inside the truck. Outside it has a pleasant tone, slightly louder than stock. I understand that resonance thing, as my last truck (1989 Sub 5.7 with a 3" Flowmaster cat back) had a terible boming resonance at 45-55 mph. Never heard a Flowmaster on a v10 but I sure wasn't going to try them again, I hated the one I had.

I am curious if anyone has or has tried a Spin Tech Muffler on their V10 Excursion? I have heard them on 5.0 Mustangs and they are uniquely deep sounding. They make a truck/rv series and I am considering giving them a try.

In reality it doesn't come down to the brand, its the model. Each company has their specific sound and the model/size is what make the difference in how loud they are. Unless you are all tlaking about the largest muffler they make, then thats another story. The bigger the muffler, the smaller the sound.

Like Hink10 said, I got the Walker BTM on my diesel X as well. No noticeable difference in the cabin but a nice little rumble outside. For $90 (cost+install), you can't beat that I've heard good things bout the Aeroturbine as well. It is a little more $ than the BTM, but not as expensive as a full system. I think you can get both of these at www.blackclouddiesel.com .

78, I can't say that the cat-back did much for power or mileage for us. I put it on right after we picked up our used X. After 2 years it still looks ok though with no rust to speak of.

Not trying to be a wet blanket here, but is putting an aftermarket muffler on a V-10 a good idea to achieve a better sounding rig? Don't get me wrong; one of the first things I do to a V-8 is stick a pair of Flowmasters on (just personal preference, keep the flaming to a minimum, please! ), but I've been toying around with what to put on my dear ol' dad's V-10 X when the muffler decides to rot out, and I'm pretty sure I'll probably end up with a stock replacement. I'm not saying the V-10 has an unpleasant tone, but it IS a little peculiar, and I'm thinking that amplifying that peculiar tone might not be the coolest idea in the world.

Guess I'm really wondering if there's anyone out there that did NOT like the way an aftermarket muffler sounded after they put it on...not trying to offend anyone!

Pat

Muffler wise for a PowerStroke Diesel powered rig I'd contact Garrett at BlackCloudDieselPerformance.com as it's like $50-55 shipped for the Walker BTM

For the gas engines I've always had excellent results from DynoMax and FlowMaster
