My Saturday.
700+ miles.
40 gallons of gas.
30.00 in tolls.
Having a t-56, setup for 302 / 351 SBF, sitting on my garage floor. Priceless.
Won (Bought?) a used T-56 with a crossmember, driveshaft, shifter, etc. Since it was a giant PITA to have it shipped from boston to philly, I decided to go on a rescue mission. I left this morning at 4 AM, was up there by 10AM, and pulled into my driveway at 4PM.
BTW, I saved almost 140 bucks by driving up there to get it. Yes, I have no life.
Needless to say it was a smokin deal, otherwise I would've passed.
Time for sleep. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz........
Oh, the frame for the 51 goes to the blaster tomorrow, and the cab is ready for blasting too.
Always love to do a road trip when truck related.
Now I have to pick a gear for the rear. Since I'll probably go 8.8 (Dime a dozen, factory disk brakes, etc.) the choices are plentiful. 4.10's may not be a great idea, since I'm planning on about 450 Ft Lbs of torque at the wheels (Should be easy with a 408).
Hey, Question for you. Do you have buckets, or a bench seat? I did some measuring, and it looks like the shifter will come through the floor about 4 or 5 inches into my factory bench seat. I do not want to go buckets.
I planned on going with a steeda tri-ax for it, but I guess I'll have to make a custom shifter handle. What did you do?
It didn't have the SS kit in it when I got it and the PO had extended the shift handle even with the seat height, the throw was ~ 16"! Felt like rowing a boat. I haven't driven it yet with the SS, but I'm trying it with a std Hurst handle since I have one.
I have 3.70 9" rear, and the engine is loafing along on the interstate @ 70.
You sure that 8" will handle the torque? Course with the light back end of a pickup you'll likely be smoking the tires well before it will break anything.
