Instalation order

Hi,

Last weekend I removed the 351M from my 79 F100. Once the motor was out, I was standing looking at the tranny (C6), and decided that it would be smart to "rebuild" it while I had the motor out. So, that is what I did.

Now the motor and tranny are ready to go back in the truck. What is the best way to do this (I have to do this by myself)

Should the motor and tranny go in together from the above? Should I put the tranny in from the bottom first, then put the motor in from above?

I removed both motor and tranny (seperatly) from above the truck with a 2-ton crane.

Any advice is appreciated, I have never installed a motor and tranny before.

This is a timeless question. If you have the front clip off then putting motor and tranny in together is easy. If not then I like to do it seperate. Good luck.

Instalation order

That would really all depend on what kind of equipment, working environement, and time you have.

The fastest and easiest i'd have to say would be to put it all in as one piece. just want to make sure you have it tilted with the transmission down a bit while going in. But there are risks doing this. If you have a good lift above it then it would be easier. With our old A-frame it's hard to get the engine and trans very high so i've put a few dents in firewalls and radiator supports trying to get an engine and trans in right.

But if you want the safest way, although maybe more time consuming and a little more difficult would be to put them in seperate. I know from experience that a C-6 is a good load to slide under a truck with it sitting on your chest, and to then bench press it into place takes a good bit of power. I WOULDN'T recommend it. But if you got a trans jack then that would definitely help. But like I said this way would take longer and might be a little more difficult in some ways, but safer overall.

Now, if you want the SAFEST route. I'd take the whole front clip off and then put it in as one piece. Of course that's a good bit more work, but that would spare the body from any damage. Anyway, good luck.
