The IUA SCJ crank was designed to be used with the LeMans rods with the shorter cap screws. C6AE-E is the LeMans SCJ rod part number. Also you use the "cookie cutter" crank sleeve for balance and the larger SCJ balancer. The IUA cranks are different from the normal CJ IU and IUB cranks. The IUA is missing the balance weight found on the 7th counterweight of the IU and IUB CJ cranks. The SCJ needed more weight on the nose to even the balance the heavier rods thus the reason for the crank sleeve balancer. Natch the flywheel was a special item also and heavier than the CJ. You can buy aftermarket Scat rods and Dove makes a repop SCJ crank sleeve balancer. A good balancer/damper and new flywheel and bring the works to be balanced. IU and IUB cranks sell for $300-600 depending on condition. The IUA SCJ cranks are a little more rare and sell for a little more. Be sure it's been checked for cracks and has not been stuffed with mallory metal. They can be turned to .060 and still be used in a street car though std to .030 will give you the best insurance if racing on a regular basis. Depending on what rods and flywheel you choose you might not need the front crank balancer. The balance shop can tell you best where and what weight is needed.

so $500 is reasonable? i'm not sure about being stuffed mallory metal. Is there some way of checking it? the crank was ground .010 about 5 years ago and was wrapped(poorly) in plastic and now is has some rust on it. is there some way of removing the rust without re-spinning the crank? or having it spun the easiest way 2 remove the rust?

And you can have it polished to see how it is and go from there. $500 is a pretty good price for a IUA being they are more rare. Mallory metal will be in the counterweights and easy to spot. Just look for drilled holes with metal slugs installed in the edges of the counterweights. If it has mallory added it might have been internally balanced which is good or balanced for another setup possibly. Hard to tell until the balance guy gets it and lets you know. Otherwise it should have no metal added if it's in stock form. You can also use a 429/460 style crank sleeve balancer instead of the SCJ one. They are much cheaper and if your not building a "correct" SCJ car of some kind easy to use. The 429/460 balancer sleeve will need to be shortened 5/8" to use on the IUA crank. Figure if the crank needs to be turned to .020/.020 it will add another $100 more or less depending what the shop charges. Figure at worst you'll have $600 into it before balancing if the journals need to be turned. See how it looks and ask the guys about the mallory and if they know the balance of the crank. If it's a machine shop your buying it from they should be able to tell you what's what. If they are also ask the cost to balance the rotating assy if the crank has been modified. You can pretty much use any rods with it besides the LeMans and Scat's. The SCJ was also externally balanced like the 428 and 428CJ from the factory.
