2/11/06 Thought I would tell you how it is going getting the manifolds off. So far so good I have the pass side off with only one broke stud and the driver side has all studs lossened but EGR tube I am having a hard time getting it lose. The driver side also has one broken stud, but I can get to both of them with vise grips. I am going to try to finish it tommorrow. Went much better than I expected for a 97' with 120,000miles and lots of RUST. All I have to say is let the bolts soak in a good penitrating oil over night. Use the Craftsman nut removers that don't round over the edges. I used numbers 5,4,3 combined with one universal, one long extension and sockets that fit over the nut removers. Take your time took me three hours to get were I am right now but I still am in a good mood (its not a race). Also I went with headers. Thanks for any info people gave me.
Thanks Michael
Did you remove the inner fenders? That makes the job a whole bunch easier.
The EGR tube can be a pain for sure but usually some heat will loosen the nut and you can get a pretty good pull on it with the inner fender removed.
When I was a kid in high school auto shop, we had a homemade....um....vehicle. It was basically just a rolling truck frame with a motor, seat, and gas tank (beer keg).
We sort of rebuilt a Ford 352 and dropped it in with only manifolds for an exhaust system. It wasn't a hotrod, but it sure sounded cool.
