I picked up an 04' excursion with the 6.0L yesterday. This thing is awesome. I am having alot of fun driving it but have a couple of questions to ask you guys.
1. I bought this from a ford dealer (used) and it came with a product called "edge products juice control" . It seems to be some kind of preformance upgrade b/c this truck will move! It has a display which monitors egt, boost, rpm and back down.
---Does this void the 100K warranty on the motor?
---I purchased an extended warranty from ford, will this cause problems with this warranty? (it was pretty expensive)
--The Display will beep a warning under heavy acceleration for 26.0 boost. Does this mean I need to back off when I get the message?
2. The light on the gauge cluster is on showing water drops and a fuel symbol (i assume water in the fuel). It came on, then went away, then came back on. What should I do about this.
3. Is this extended warranty a good idea, it was almost $2800 for 48,000 miles and 48 months. The dealer told me he was selling it to me at $50 over cost. It still seemed expensive. Did i get ripped off or was the warranty a good idea. I have 5 days to cancel!
The EDGE product will void all of your engine warranties if found by FMC. Considering the issues caused by some of the chips and the manner the truck "might" have been driven with it, I would be thinking about getting my money back from the dealer that sold it to me. Truck is worth a lot less with the EDGE than without it.
JMHO
Yes, you got ripped off big time for that extended warranty. Take that money and put it in the bank. If you have no major issues after 48 months or 48000 miles, you still have your money, the dealer doesn't. That extended warranty should have cost about $1500 tops. There are several other extended warranty companies who can offer coverage. But with that Edge module in there, you are probably screwed from the get go.
Change your fuel filters. Both of them. Water also accumulates in the system and there is a fuel/water separator that needs to be opened to release the water, if the dealer changes the filters, they should drain the separator as well. Diesel fuel is hydroscopic, which means it attracts water.
That alarm is letting you know that you are getting near the upper limits of boost the engine is designed for. IMHO 26 PSI isn't anything to worry about though. Maybe the alarm is set too low or the gauge is inaccurate.

It will void your warrenty and who knows how hard it was driven by the previous owner.
The extended warrenty could be denied as well... but since the dealer sold it to you... is there any notation on the paperowrk that you bought the truck with the Edge and all the goodies. They may claim that you added it after buying it and they just unloaded their "bad apples" truck onto you and it's your word versus theirs.
I would take it back, get a full refund and start the process over again. Way take the chance with performance issues and warrenty issues.
Beachbumcook has a point. That Ex was probably rode like a government mule.
There are plenty of other prime diesel Excursions on the market. Around my area there is a dealer that specializes in them. Wish I had the extra cash, I'd buy one for the spouse of the house.
just to give you guys an update- i spoke with the dealer and they are sending me written documentation to show that the edge will not void my warranty. I was very surprised! This came straight from the service manager at a ford dealer. If they send the documentation and Ford enies the warranty claim then i should have a pretty good case for the dealer to eat the cost

Justforfishing, My money says that you are protected. The dealer sold you the vehicle with the chip and warrenty. That have to fulfill the warrenty or they would libel for noy providing you with a full-discloser. I certainly would get the paper work though.

FORD would not provide the warranty. The DEALER would have to pony up. Read that owner's manual or the placard in the engine compartment. If the Edge does not have a EPA certifcation (it doesn't) and Ford determines it causes any damage to your engine (they nearly always do), you are screwed. What the dealer SAYS, and even what the dealer puts down on paper may be worthless. Have a legal beagle take a LONG look at that warranty. I'll bet it has more holes than Swiss cheese.

I agree with your point but still feel the dealer certainly would be liable. The dealer cannot sell a product knowing it would not be covered in other words a defective product. Ford may not cover it but the dealer would be responsible and I believe a court of law would agree.
To alleivate this it may be in his best interest to take the truck back and have it reomved.
I agree, the dealer has now accepted full responsibility for the engine warranty. That is not to say that they are not mod friendly anyway. They must feel pretty comfy in the fact that they can get all or most warranty issues past Ford.
It would be interesting to see the OASIS on this baby. May not be any issues at all. Just because it is modded does not mean any thing is broke...but does raise a red flag.

Very good point, an OASIS would certainly be interesting.
the oasis came back very clean. In for a couple of repairs ( ball joint and a planetary gear for the tranny) and that is it. no red flags regarding the edge
the edge, as far as i recall, does not offer any trans upgrades, thus owners using the older edge products were toasting trannies left and right...
anyhoo, watch the egt, dont worry about boost at all.
as for the warranty,
the 100k engine warranty is free.
i paid 1900 for the esp with a 50 dollar deductible, BUMPER TO BUMPER for 5yr/100k..this covers anything, other than wear items....
dealer will be replacing door weatherstrips, and cup holder under this warranty on my next oil change...i hate air leaks
fwiw, if you blow a head gasket, the dealer may submit it to ford, but if an area rep comes out to inspect (say repairs are over 1200, they have to) the claim, HE WILL DENY the claim.
