428 Crank will work in the 352, 360, 390 blocks. even a 406 if you found one, the 406 crank is the same, just less piston. the 390 must be bored .080 over standard for the 428 pistom. I recommend Ross racing pistons. They have a 9.0 to 1 light weight piston that gives good revs and no worries about fuel quality.
The stock rods with arp bolts should give you 5500 limit without worries of flying apart.
Make sure you have the block checked closely for cyl. wall thickness if it is an early 428 block or a late 390 block.
A 391 truck block would be the stronger block to have though.
Wild, the 410/428 cranks are available but usually exspensive. Look at swap meets, on E-bay and ask you local machine shops. The casting numbers are 1U, 1UA and 1UB. I would expect one to cost you 300$ or more. Good luck with the hunt! DF
Lets straighten out a few things. First, yes a 428 crank can be installed. theya re expensive so plan to pay a few bucks. You will then need 390 connecting rods. This along with the correct set of pistons ( bore tyhe block to 390 specs) will yield
410 CI. I would not suggest trying to bore farther than that. This is an engine ( 410 ) that Mercury offered and you can get pistons for thay engine. A 406 crank is the same as a 390 crank. Disregard that previous info, not that you would find any 406 parts anyway; very rare. Basically a 406 is a 428 bore with a 390 crank. You should go with a 390 bore, shorter 390/428 rods and either a 390 crank ( cheap) or a 428 crank ( $$$$ ) and the appropriate piston.
