I know most guys dont think much of the aftermarket manuals, but my Chilton super duty manual #26667 has a very good explanation of the turbo removal, Section 4B-13 through 4B-16. Good Luck
i just pulled my turbo this afternoon. i just came in from it, it took me 3.5 hours, stopping for lunch, etc. the hardest part was getting the clamp off that connects the turbo to the up-pipe collector. i just kept hitting it with a large prybar and hammer, it eventually popped off like a spring. i also tightened up the wastegate arm seat pressure some, along with replacing the o-rings except the internal ones in the KCM kit, that included new 10.9 bolts.
now i'm off to flush the tranny with amsoil synthetic and add an inline microfine filter.
Thanks guys you saved me again. Great info on the forum as always. Would you have you turbo rebuilt or buy a new one from ITP or some place else. Can you guys hook me up with KMCs web address, I have tried to look it up and can't find it! Thanks

the stock turbo is easily rebuildable. or you could buy a van turbo, and i could trade you turbos, and you could have a very nice stock turbo with WW!!
Thanks everyone and strokin_it7.3. I will see if I can pick up a van turbo in my area and I will get back to you. What do you gain with a stock turbo with a ww and how many miles on the one you want to trade? What condition do you want the van turbo in? Meaning do you just want me to find a used one? Thanks

That sounds like two different problems. The turbo is not part of the high pressure oil system. Te only exposed part of the high pressure oil system is the two lines that run from the high pressure pump to the heads.
Jones west ford told the boss man that his high pressure oil seals were out, which I have had replaced three times with only 40,000 miles under warranty. They also told him that his turbo was junk so we want to fix both.Jones west is way to much money.
Sorry my bosses truck is a F-250, 02 a different truck than mine. I think I said it wrong to make it sound like the same truck but we are talking about two different truck's. Mine is all good except for my trany. His is the one with the problem. Thank again!!

actually, i was just kidding, but in all seriousness, go for it. a van turbo is a highly desired item around us PSheads, and i want one. beansdieselperf sells a remanned van turbo for $850, with a wickedwheel. not cheap, but compared to a $1600 ball bearing turbo, its great for the money. my turbo has 74K on it, with a WW installed 4K miles ago. i could probably get $250 on ebay for it if i were lucky. you find me a nice van turbo from a 99-03 Eseries, and we can talk LOL
Thanks for being truthfull strokin_it7.3. I' am not too up to date on this Ford 7.3 thing, but I am learning with your guys help. I'm looking forward to hooking the boss up with his needed repairs so I can learn from his and make mine better than his. lol

Those o-rings should not be failing at all unless they are being damaged during the installation. I suppose it could be a casting flaw in the head, sharp edge or somethng, but I would think they would have looked for something like that the second time they replaced the o-rings....definitely by the third.
Given the appearant lack of caring at the dealership, you might want to fix the HPO leak and get it all cleaned up before you start a diagnosis on the turbo. No sense in throwing parts at it if you don't have to.
I really dont trust jones west, but the last time they did mine they said the seals or o-rings were a new material to replace the old stuff and they will last,we will see.
