When installing a Daystar leveling kit, is it necessary to replace the front shocks. The reason I ask is that I recieved a $650 quote from on offroad shop for the above. and a second quote of ~$250 from another shop for the leveling kit installed only. Why do some shops replace the front shocks while others don't?

i installed mine and kept the same stock shocks with no problems at all.
I just has my local shop put in a 2 1/2" Daystar lift and NO new shocks. They charged $150 for the kit and $100 for the install. Looks great and same nice ride!
Outlaw Offroad in Irvine. http://www.outlawoffroad.com/ Ask for Jarod and tell him Rick Zimmermann sent ya and you can get that price too. 4 Wheel Parts http://www.4wheelparts.com/4wp/index.asp in Irvine/Lake Forest can do it too but a little more money and not as customer service oriented IMO. I am not affiliated with either BTW.
