Does anyone own a DeWalt Heavy-Duty 1/2" Impact Wrench - DW291?
I am considering getting one of these electric impact wrenches and wondered if anyone has any experience with them? I know DeWalt makes good tools, but how well does this wrench work?
Thanks, all!
I have an air impact, and I like it better than my electric for the power. It should work ok for you if you don't have a good sized compressor. I like air tools cause they are cheaper, since they don't have an electric motor.Mark

I have the DeWalt 1/2" electric air impact wrench and it works great. However, I've never used it on my vehicles, I have air tools for that, I use the DeWalt for deck building, etc. when I need to drive lag bolts. Therefore I can't tell you the diff in power as far as whether or not it would be good for auto work, but it shouldn't be hard to get the ratings for the DW and compare it to the ratings for air tools. Plus as someone said above the price of air tools is much lower than that of electrical, may be a factor for you. HTH
LOL! That is what I use my electric for! Lag bolts on decks! Hahah! When I build fences, I use the air nailer for the boards only, so I usually have the compressor in the truck for that circumstance. Otherwise, most of my decks I use screws, so the electric impact is there so I don't have to load up the compressor!

I too have used the Dewalt mostly for decking when sinking lags. It works well for that. As a comparison, the Dewalt is rated around 200 ft pounds, my IR 1/2 is rated at 600 back, 450 forward, cost < $250, and is very light compared to the Dewalt electric.
A buddy of mine bought one of the electric impact wrenches from snap on. He says he loves it! For him he has to leave his shop sometimes to go out and pick up something that has broken down, and sometimes it just easier to fix what ever it is right there or hauling a compressor to the site just isn't going to work. He said its made his life a lot easier.
I have a Makita 3/4 electric impact and used to use a Craftsman 1/2 electric to remove rusted wheels and axles from mobile-home frames. Neither gun has ever let me down, just don't plan on using too many extensions.
Me and a buddy have a shop/warehouse together where we do side work and he has one of these. I absolutely love it and have always said that if we have a falln' out and he takes his DW electic impact with him, the first thing I'm gonna do is go out and get me one. We have air also which I love too, but the electric just seems to be more convienant - you don't have to wait for the compressor to build up, etc.. BUT, for the real hard stuff, you need the air... Just my .02 worth.
