"IF" I decided to put a small boost to my ford 400, where would one get a bottle filled?? I asked a local welding gas supply house, they said I need a "prescription"!!! what to do?
I live in a relatively small town, Im not sure we have a speed shop. There are some shops around that are "performance" oriented. I may ask them. Is it expensive??? how much to fill a 10lb. bottle?
I would try the performance shops first. I haven't bought any in several years but it was $4.00 a pound then. I also called a welding supply company and they only had medical-grade (pure) nitrous oxide which was $5.00 and they also required a doctor's prescription or a medical/dental license. (The nitrous you get at the speed shop has 100 parts per million of sulfur dioxide added which is so smelly and irritating that you can't inhale it without vomiting).
You can empty a 10 pound bottle in about 2 minutes total on-time if you are making 100-125 extra hp, as a rule of thumb. Gets expensive fast.
Check around for performance shops they should sell some. Also check with someone that is already running nitrous and see where they get there refills at.
Other alternative is to buy a refill station about 700 for the NOS refill station (but a quality piece) then you find a Nexair or other welding supply shop and get the big bottles (mother bottle) of NYTROUS-PLUS you have to get that not the N20. the Nytrous plus has the sulfor in it so it prevents (well does not prevent but discourages taking a second huff) people from huffing it. If you do that you can work with the supplier and get the price down to around 1.75-2.50 lb depending on who you know and how much you buy. The you get all your buddy's on the gas and you start selling them refills for 4lb to pay for your habit!
Don't pay more than $4.00 its about the highest you see. At FFW and other events vendors are there usually selling for 3-3.50 lb.
My brother owns a shop and charges 3.50lb too (I think thats right).
