Mybe wrong forum but not a lot of activity over there. I'm about to seriously go through my front end with new coils, an air bag, poly bushings, new tie rods etc. I'm worried about the king pins with 280,000 miles. They don't seem loose but maybe it's time? I want to R&R the "I" beams anyway for the bushings. Not sure if I can tell between king pin and bearing looseness when I shake it. Could these pins seriously have any miles left on them?
If you don't hear from me for a while someone come look under the front end.

The king pins on my '79 F100 were a bear to remove. I was in the same boat as you. One pounded out allright, the other had to be driven out using a pneumatic impact hammer. Plan on taking the I-beam and spindles to a auto machine shop (unless you have a press of your own). The spindle bushings are tough to get out also. Go with the metal bushings, the nylon ones will wear much faster. You'll also need to have the I-beam pivot bushings pressed out and the new ones pressed in. There was someone in this forum that suggested burning out the rubber and leaving the external shell, buy energy suspension bushings and just slip them in. I left mine to the shop to do. It's a job that is much more involved than it appears. Take my advice, buy he parts, pull the I-beams and spindles out as a unit, and bring them to a good shop. You'll save yourself a lot of hassle.
Good advise. I'll farm the "I" beams out while I have it apart. I was goint to have a local shop do all the work but they lied to me about having the parts after I specifically asked three times if they had everything in hand. Wasted a whole day. Want it right, do it yourself I guess.
