starting question

Hi everyone. I have a 71 250 that i have a question about.

On a hot day when my truck is parked for hours, is my truck supposed to start without the choke engaged?

My truck will start then die right away but if i hit the choke then it will stay lit.

then I would recomend choking it whenever starting it "cold" even if the ambient temp is 90 degrees

It is my understanding that any engine needs a rich mixture to start and to warm up. A richer mix helps start easier and run while the engine is cold. Remember it could be 100 degrees out and you can still have a cold engine. The choke helps create a temp rich condition by regulating airflow. Hot and cold has nothing to do with the air temp its mostly coolant.
