All I did when my key minder started dinging was just tap the ignition and it shut off.

key minder ding

I have sprayed the door latches good with WD40 and the dome light issue seems to have resolved. I also thought this may help with the dinger but it hasn't. So I will try the graphite this weekend.

Thanks!

Key reminder when keys removed

Before we got our 99F250LD, my wife drove a mercury Villager mini-van. She was forever locking her keys in the van, so we gave a spare key to a friend that she works with. Her friend drove a 98F150 which didn't have the security chipped ignition key. She would quite often try to put the van key in the truck. The key kinda fit, so she would slightly force it before realizing that the key was wrong.

Anyway, the F150 started doing the ding ding whenever the door opened regardless of where the key was. We took off the ignition switch and sure enough, that little tab at the bottom was bent. We were able to straighten it out enough so that the ding ding worked when it should. If we couldn't straighten it, I would have suggested simply removing it.

Hope this helps out anyone else who has the same thing.

Hey…………….. If you want a great way to get back in your vehicle, when you lock your keys in it. We have a new patented product called the Hitch Safe Key Vault that fits into most 2 inch receiver hitches. This allows you to store a spare key inside the receiver hitch that can only be accessed using your own personal 4 digit code. You will never be locked out of your truck again. We have complete videos on our web site showing how it works and how to set the combination. We currently have a promotion on our site giving one away for free. All you need to do is visit our site and register to be qualified for the give away.

Feel free to share the contest with your friends.

Thank You

The switches are in the door latches. You have to remove the door panels to access them. I think there are some instructions in the FAQs at the top of the forum.

Well, the WD-40 and graphite helped with the drawing down of the battery, but the damned dinging still goes on and one and.......

I noticed that sometimes when I remove the key and the moon is right, and ....it stops. So there must be something that the key contacts when inserted and/or removed. I seem to remember seeing something about disabling the g-spot for the key. Any suggestions?
