What size and weight travel trailer do you tow w/ your F-150? I have an 05 FX4 5.4 screw, 3.73 LS.
I downsized from an 02 F-350 CC LB 7.3 PSD and therefore need to downsize my current 30' 10K LB trailer.
Thanks
If it was I suppose that you could pull it with a WD hitch....but it would really be cutting it close. Your truck is rated for #9500. You'll really miss the PSD, and with out duals it would be interesting (sway bars would really help). If 10K wasn't loaded weight, I wouldn't even consider the notion.
I too down sized from a 7.3L PSD, at times I miss it, but my F150 gets the job done at much cheaper.
The 10K is loaded weight. I haven't taken it out w/ the F-150. The trailer weight dry is about 6850 Lbs. I do miss the PSD sometimes. That truck had no problem pulling that TT. I'm thinking I'll go w/ about 6k loaded on my next TT.
I towed a k5 blazer cross country on a uhaul car hauler with out a problem. i have to admit I wish i had my edge at the time, all I had was an intake and aero-turbine muffler, but there were no problems what so ever.
I have a 27'-6" TT that is rated at 5050lbs dry. I used to tow it with my 03 Screw with no problem. I haven't tried towing with the 05 Screw yet. I am anxious to try it and see if there is a difference. The 05 has an addional 2,100lb towing capacity over the 03 (9,300lbs vs 7,200lbs). I am hoping I will be able to tow easier than with the 03.
The new truck has 40 extra HP and 15 extra ft/lbs of torque. Will it make a difference I wonder? The new truck is 500lbs heavier though............
I suppose I will just have to wait till the spring to find out!

Is that including water? If so, you could skip filling the water tanks, that would save alot of weight.
I really believe that your truck could pull that trailer safely with a WD hitch and a really good brake controller.
The F150 won't pull like a PSD, but you shouldn't have any problems going 55mph with the trailer. Just lock it out of OD, and you should be fine.
If nothing else, I'd hook it up for a quick spin just to see what you think.
I two a 5073 lbs (dry) fifth wheel with my 04-FX4. Loaded weight is probably in the 6000lbs range. I have absolutely no problem pulling it and in the city/burbs I easily keep uo with traffic while the truck shifts at 3500 RPM.
That is useful to know. With the 03 Screw I owned, I had to tow with the O/D off. I am assuming I will have to do the same with this truck to get the engine RPM's into the "power" range for towing?
I am think my trailer is in the 6,000lb range loaded as well. I do a lot of towing in British Columbia. It is VERY mountainous over there. I didn't have problems with the other truck. I am just hoping the 05 will tow better.
I usually two with the OD off. Unless you are on flat land, no head wind and going 65 mph, then in OD is OK but any kind of hills, it's back in OD off mode.
I don't want to the tranny to hunt for gears so OD off is the best bet.
I really like my truck - towing or not. Once the beast is paid, we will get a car and keep the truck. Not sure what kind of car just yet... but I will continue getting smarter about cars too.
Have fun!
PS: One thing I would like to change on my truck, it's the location of the OD on/off switch. If only it was on the gear selector instead of on the console. Oh Well...
I have a 04 SC 2wd and tow a 32 foot fiver and get 10 mpg around 8g unloaded do not pull with water. I am pushing but that truck was all i could afford at the time. Can also put in od with cruse on flat ground.
ps. 2005 keystone copper canyon. 1500k pin weight, fireston air bags great add.
