Weldman, I live in Georgetown, near Toronto, let me know if you want help setting up the carb, I just went through the same things with my truck (over a period of 6 months), I may be able to help you. My truck runs great now.
BTW, the motor WILL stall if you push that pump when it is idleing. When you do that, the poor motor gets way too much fuel and can't cope with it.
When you change the accelerator pump, make sure you also replace the "eastomer valve", thats the little rubber piece that pushes into the carb. side of the accelerator pump housing. If yours is deteriorated, it could cause some of the problems your having.
If you replace the accelerator pump and your sure the idle mixture screws are adjusted properly, and you still are having the bogging problem, I would check the adjustment of the choke. If its not adjusted properly it can cause an over-fueling condition when you step on the throttle.
