Transmission trouble
I'm hoping someone can help diagnose the problem my father is having with his transmission.
1990 F-150
302 - V8 engine
Transmission - unknown automatic, but 'METRIC" is stamped on bottom of pan.
Vehicle runs down the road fine until 45mph.
As soon as the transmission shifts, all forward drive stops - as if shifting into neutral.
Drive will not return until vehicle comes to a complete stop.
Help.

I was able to get a bit more info about the problem today.
The transmission shifts fine from first to second gear at 26mph. The trans will continue pulling until the second to third shift should happen at 45mph, but will then jump into "neutral" and you have to be ready to lift off the throttle or the enging will over-rev.
The fluid is clear and red (not cloudy with particles in it, or a brownish color).
Dad lost his sense of smell 30 years ago, so he's gonna have a neighbor smell for any sign of burning.
He's hoping for clear weather this weekend so he can pull the tranny.
