Stepside option

Were stepsides an option every year? If not what years were they optional?

They were the base model I'm pretty sure. The stylside was the option. Someone correct me if i was wrong about this though. And they were availabe every year

I would like to know for certain as well. I think they started from the very beginning, the latest one I remember seeing was in the early to mid 80`s.

I agree that they were available every year, but I don't think they were standard or optional as much as the Flareside and Styleside were separate models.

well, i've seen the 80-86 models with stepsides, and i've seen 92 and up models with stepsides. I've never seen an 87-91 model with a stepside. I know that now, the stepside adds cost to a new truck. On my 1970 stepside, i know the original owner and she ordered the cheapest truck she could get. That was a stepside she said. The styleside cost more then. I'm not sure when they changed over to being a higher priced option.

I have obtained a set of 1972 truck shop manuals. I find no mention of stepside. I see flareside, stylyside,custom,sport custom,ranger, ranger xlt. I see a 8' and a 6.6' box. Could the 6.6' box be the stepside???

Technically, Stepside is a GM designation. Fords were always called Flaresides.

My buddy bought an F100 brand new in '72. As I recall, the Flareside was the base model; a Styleside was $40 more. Flaresides seem to be much rarer until you get into really old trucks. Flaresides weren't 'cool' in the 70's.
