I just put a C6 out of a parts truck into my 70 F250. Feel
confident that I had the torque converter all the way in. Nearly
an inch behind the front of the bell housing, and the transmission mated right up to the motor with no problem. When I start up, the transmission went right into gear, no problem. Started down the driveway, and felt something bind up briefly. I stopped, and it clear up. Continued on, every thing seemed great, for about 500 yards, and then it went out of gear. Now every gear is like it's in neutral. What do you think, could it be the torque converter, or is the transmission finished.

I let the truck cool for a couple of hrs, and the transmission went right into gear. After it warmed up, the same problem occurred.

I read in one of my motor manuals that no drive in any gear
could be the valve body, or the pressure regulator? Where is
the regulator. Is it replaceable with the tranny in the truck, or is it internal meaning a tranny tear down to get to. Truck has all gears for about 5 minutes when started from cold, then looses all gears.
thanks
jeff
I usually don't post simple things to check, but did you check the oil level while idleing in park after you took it for a drive? Sometimes it takes a while for the fluid to fill the torque converter and cooler lines.
The pressure regulator would be inside the valve body. The valve body can be easily removed by removing the oil pan, but you probably do not want to take the valve body apart without a good book, a clean bench, and cleaning solvent. Lots of parts to loose, and it must be assembled without any chance of contamination. It might be easier to just swap the intire valve body from a different tranny. Might as well change the filter(attached to the bottom of the valve body) while you have the pan off.
thanks for replying to this. I have made sure it's not fluid level. I feel that the tranny is loosing pressure. I have another tranny that lost reverse and 3rd, (the one I took out), but the valve body should be good. Think I'll give that a try before I pull the tranny back out.
