Yesterday, I was at Amigos to get a vacumn canistor for our van, spare tire for the F-250 and a spare tire for my car. They didn't have a spare tire for my car but one of the cars had rear disc brakes (I have drums) so I got them. Today I was disassembling them and everything was coming apart real easy despite how rusty they looked. Then I was putting one of the bolts back in the caliper and I accidentally drop the bolt. In the process of catching the bolt I hit it under the bench. Well it's a total mess under there. 15 min later it is all clean but that dang bolt is nowhere to found and guess how much Ford want's for a 1 1/4 long bolt? $8.50
At $8.50 I would try Amigos again or SGI salvage. At least you have a clean area under the bench now so the whole day wasn`t wasted..which reminds me of cleaning up my shop.
It's looking okay. I'm planning on buying the parts over a period of time as I can't afford them all at once. I still need brake hoses, e-brake cables, rotors, pads, dust shields and a bolt for a grand total of $250. I'll get a little better braking and better looks. 4 wheel discs look that much better with alloy wheels.
It's unreal the price asked for some little things. $34 for a single bolt to bolt down my truck box! I just used some assoerted bolts that were lying around.
Almost makes you want to scream sometimes!
Yeah it does almost make you scream! I found if a guy goes to just a plain ol bolt store, they usually have somethign that will work! And 51, thats awesome it is going to work well for you! It does improve the look lots through some rims by having disks
I ran into the same thing with my 84 Ranger truck box bolts/clips. The bolts were $8-9 each and the sheet metal clips for the bolts were even more, about $14 each. Tried to rob some used ones from a parts truck I had and found that they were too rusted to even take off the parts truck.
For that kind of money I cleaned up the old bolts/clips and reinstalled them except for the worst one at the very back. I was selling it and told the buyer about this, he wasn`t concerned. He priced out the new ones and also thought that they were way too much $.
That's sometimes the only real option. Clean as best you can and out it back.
When I was cleaning up my tiller last week, I pulled the carb apart and in doing so, the clip that holds the needle valve to the float just disintigrated in mt hand. Not a big surprisem but an unwelcome one. Luckily I had an old motor that was to be filed under 'G', so I stole the clip from there. It wasn't a perfect fit, but I "adjusted'it and all is good now.
