I recently purchased a 2003 Expey with the 5.4L engine. It has 22800 miles on it.
When the SUV sits for few days 2 to 3 when I start it I get a very small amount of blue/white smoke. It's at the dealer right now, They can't recreate the problem, but I told them to let is sit for 3 days and try again. I have had the SUV about three weeks and it has done this twice.
Should I be concerned about this? Change oils etc etc....
Is it doing this on a cold morning? Maybe it's just a little steam from the water in the exhaust system burning off. If you're concerned it's the oil, I'd suggest changing the oil and putting in what's recommended in the owner's manual. I can't remember it's 5w-20 or 5w30 for that year of truck. The Motorcraft oils are very good for that engine as well as Motorcraft filters.
This is a very common happening in the V-10 forum. When your Rig sits for a few days, did you just drive it a very short distance or move it around your driveway? If so, there is unburned gas in the combustion chamber and when you fire it up, it gets burned out and creates a quick puff of bluish white smoke. Nothing to worry about..
