I have read through numerous post but none seemed to help, so now I will post my problem, I have a 03 Expedition with the 5.4L it started missing a few weeks ago, at the advise of the forum I took it to Autozone and the codes read, they said the #2 cylinder was miss firing and suggested replacing the COP and the spark plug, I did this and the problem was solved. About a week later my engine started missing again, this time worse then before, but now my check engine light comes on and flashes and then turns back off. I took my rig to autozone, but now there are no codes showing. Please any suggestions would be appreciated.
The flashing light is a "live" indicator that it is missing. Why it would not throw the code for good, I don't know. Something must be fouling the plug that you replaced before. Have you looked at the plug #2 compared to all the others? Did it look different (oily, green etc.?)
I had my codes cleared yesterday and rechecked today, my number 3 cylinder is miss firing now but only when the motor gets warmed up, would this more likely be a boot, plug, or coil?
Probably the coil. I would swap it with another cylinder. Swap coils with #1 cylinder. Reset the light. If it comes back on, then see which cylinder it is this time. If it moves to #1, then it is the coil and it will be easier to change
Well got my rig back yesterday after they replaced the boot and the rusty spark plug. Worked fine on the way home and part of this morning but now its back to missing again. Went to autozone they came up with a code PO300 and a PO307 the first is a random multi cylinder missfire and the second a cylinder 7 missfire. This is driving me crazy. Guess I need to take it in again.
They did not fix it and I have not done anything about it. I wish that I could give you some advice but I dont know whats going on yet, I am going to change out the remaining plugs tommorrow and move the front 4 coils to the back and see what happens. I will let you know what the outcome is. Goodluck
